Saiboku Aya stick ink 18 colours
Aya stick inks by a renowned Japanese ink producer based in Nara. They replace Saiboku which are no longer made.
They are made both with organic and inorganic pigments with an advanced technology; the aim is to reproduce traditional colours. These colours are bright due to the use of animal glue. They are made by hand by craftsmen. Colours don't fade. Traditionally used for Japanese painting and watercolor, they are perfect for western calligraphy too.
You need to have a Suzuri ink stone and distilled water (lukewarm water helps the process of ink making). The stick is ground slowly with circular movements until a saturated color is obtained. If you have a white porcelain Suzuri you will better see the colour. A traditional black stone Suzuri is also okay but you must wash it well after use.
The range consists of 15 colours, two white and one black.
We recommend you dry the stick after use or it may crack.
